Overview
Field Law is celebrating a major milestone this year as its Community Fund Program surpasses $1 million in total funding awarded to community-led initiatives across Alberta and the Northwest Territories. As part of this achievement, Field Law is pleased to announce the 2025 recipients, with seventeen projects receiving a combined $85,000 to support community safety, youth programming, revitalized public spaces, and supports for vulnerable families.
Now in its 13th year, the Community Fund Program continues to empower grassroots organizations and individuals who make meaningful contributions to their communities. Through a combination of public voting and judging panel review, the program identifies ideas that will create lasting, positive impact. Since launching, it has supported hundreds of locally driven initiatives that reflect the strengths, priorities, and creativity of the communities Field Law serves.
“This year marks an exciting milestone for the Community Fund Program,” said Field Law Managing Partner Farha Salim. “Reaching the $1 million mark speaks to the importance of investing in ideas that directly support community well-being, and to the passion and innovation of those who continue to step forward with projects that make a real difference. We congratulate this year’s winners and look forward to seeing the difference their projects will make.”
Grand Prize Recipients
Southern Alberta
The Friends of Parkland Way Society has been awarded $10,000 to advance the Prince of Wales School Park Revitalization Project. This initiative will reimagine an aging schoolyard into an inclusive, multi-use outdoor space that supports physical activity, community gatherings, and safe play for hundreds of students and local families. The project will create a revitalized environment that fosters wellness, outdoor learning, and stronger community connection.
Northern Alberta
The Radius Community Health and Healing team has been awarded $12,000 for its Improving Oral Health Equity with Guided Biofilm Therapy for Underserved Edmontonians project. This initiative will expand access to safe, effective dental care for individuals who often face the greatest barriers to oral health services. By using Guided Biofilm Therapy, Radius will help prevent disease, reduce oral health inequities, and improve long-term outcomes for vulnerable Edmontonians.
Northwest Territories
The Hay River Community Garden Society has been awarded $15,000 to advance the development of an expanded community greenhouse in Hay River. The project will increase access to fresh, locally grown food while offering hands-on learning opportunities for residents of all ages. With renewed and growing interest in gardening across the region, the initiative aims to strengthen long-term food security and support a more resilient community food system.
Next Gen Award Winner
The Next Gen Award supports post-secondary students passionate about making a difference on their campus or in their community. This year's recipients is the Students’ Association of NorQuest College – The Community Table. A student-led initiative that brings Student Council and the broader student body together each month to share a free, nutritious meal and engage in meaningful conversations about campus life, wellness, and inclusion. This Community Table fosters stronger connections and a sense of belonging while empowering students to share their perspectives and shape the campus experience.
