About
About the Field Law Community Fund Program
The Field Law Community Fund Program launched in 2013 to support local ideas and initiatives across Alberta and the Northwest Territories. Each year, the program provides funding to help turn community projects into reality, strengthening the places where we live and work.
This year the program celebrated a major milestone — $1 million in funding since its launch. This milestone reflects not only dollars distributed but the lasting ripple effects these projects create, from empowering women and at-risk youth to helping newcomers understand their legal rights and fostering inclusion in schools and workplaces.
How the Program Works
This year, $85,000 is made available for great ideas:
- $30,000 for projects in northern Alberta
- $30,000 for projects in southern Alberta
- $20,000 for projects in the Northwest Territories
- $5,000 for the Next Gen Award,
The Next Gen Award was launched in 2024 to encourage post-secondary students to bring forward fresh, campus or community-strengthening ideas
Community Fund Program applicants do not need to be registered charities. By opening the program to grassroots groups and emerging organizations, Field Law is ensuring that more voices and creative ideas can access support.
Community Involvement
Winners are chosen through a unique process that combines public voting with input from local Community Market Judging Panels. This approach ensures the funded projects reflect both community priorities and local expertise.
Applications for the 2025 program close October 8, with public voting opening October 15.
Lasting Community Impact
Since 2013, the Community Fund Program has supported initiatives across nearly every aspect of community life:
- Education and legal literacy
- Healthcare and mental health supports
- Women’s and immigrant organizations
- At-risk youth and homelessness
- Arts, culture, and sports
- Animal welfare and rescue programs
These projects demonstrate Field Law’s belief that small ideas, when given the right support, can spark big impact.
Looking Ahead
As the program prepares to distribute its 2025 funds, it is on track to reach the $1 million milestone — a testament to the creativity of local changemakers and Field Law’s ongoing commitment to supporting community-driven innovation across Alberta and the Northwest Territories.
