Amie Heil

Amie Heil is an Edmonton-based Partner whose practice focuses on Wills, Estates + Trusts, corporate commercial law and real estate.

In her estate practice, Amie advises individuals, trustees and business owners on comprehensive estate planning matters. Her work includes the preparation of wills, enduring powers of attorney and personal directives to address incapacity, as well as other estate planning documents related to the establishment and maintenance of trusts.

Amie also advises clients on estate administration matters, from obtaining grants of probate and grants of administration to other aspects of estate administration. She has represented clients who require guardianship or trusteeship orders following incapacity.

Amie has extensive experience across a broad range of corporate commercial matters, including:

  • Incorporating businesses
  • Corporate governance
  • Share and asset purchase transactions
  • Contract review, drafting and negotiation
  • Employment matters
  • Real estate matters
  • Transactional risk management

Amie’s focus on these complementary practices allows her to work collaboratively with other professionals to develop and implement comprehensive estate plans that encompass the incorporation of companies and corporate reorganizations.

Amie also has a broad range of litigation experience, including estate litigation, corporate litigation, shareholder disputes and other general commercial litigation matters. She has appeared before the Alberta Court of Justice, the Alberta Court of King’s Bench, the Alberta Court of Appeal and other boards and tribunals.

Her estate litigation matters have included challenges to the validity of a will, entitlement to life insurance proceeds and the enforceability of life insurance designations. Amie has a keen interest in resolving disputes through mediation and arbitration and has completed the Harvard Mediation Intensive Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School.
