Roy Boettger

Roy Boettger, KC, is a Calgary-based lawyer whose practice focuses on Wills, Estates and Trusts. With more than 50 years of experience, he assists families and individuals with developing and updating their estate planning arrangements and resolving issues that arise during estate planning and administration. His clients are primarily based in Calgary and the surrounding area, and he also advises clients in other Canadian provinces and territories who have personal financial interests in Alberta. Roy was appointed King's Counsel in 1992. 

Roy assists his clients with preserving and protecting their financial security, develops wealth transfer and succession strategies. He helps clients address potential planning concerns such as ability challenged or spendthrift beneficiaries, matrimonial disruption, second family relationships, estate or trust litigation and other succession and estate planning issues. He also advises on asset protection considerations and remains attentive to provincial and federal legislation changes which may affect clients and their wealth-transfer processes.

Committed to legal education, Roy served for many years as an instructor for the Alberta Bar Admissions Course, now CPLED, and as an educator for the Legal Education Society of Alberta and the Canadian Bar Association in the area of Wills, Estates and Trusts, both provincially and nationally.

Roy has a longstanding commitment to his community and has served on the Boards of several charitable and community organizations. He has served as a Director of The Calgary Foundation for nine years, including two years as Chairman, and as a Director of the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation for 11 years. He also served as a Director of the Calgary Rotary Clubs Foundation for six years, including a term as Chairman, as a Director and President of The Rotary Club of Calgary-Downtown and on the Rockyview General Hospital Bio-Ethics Committee for 11 years. He currently serves as a Director and Vice-President of the McMahon Stadium Society.
