Jason Kully

Jason Kully is an Edmonton-based Partner whose practice focuses on professional regulation, labour + employment and administrative law. He advises professional regulatory organizations, post-secondary institutions and employers throughout Alberta on complex regulatory, governance and workplace matters.

Jason acts as legal counsel to professional regulators across a range of professions, advising on matters including professional misconduct, privacy and registration matters, unauthorized practice and regulatory governance. Jason also presents discipline cases before tribunals and has served as independent legal counsel to tribunals. His understanding of the regulatory landscape is reflected in his co-authorship of two legal texts:

• The Law of Regulatory Investigations in Canada, co-authored with Jim Casey, KC, and Michelle Casey, explores the legal complexities of investigations across a range of professions.
• The Annotated Health Professions Act, co-authored with Jim Casey, KC, Katrina Haymond, KC, and Gregory Sim, is a practical guide for legal counsel and Alberta's health profession regulators.

In his labour and employment practice, Jason provides practical, strategic advice on matters such as:

• Employee discipline, terminations and layoffs
• Drafting and revising employment agreements 
• Developing workplace policies and procedures
• Managing privacy breaches and data protection
• Supporting internal workplace investigations
• Navigating unionized environments and collective bargaining

Jason is a member of Field Law’s Workplace Investigations Group and has completed trauma-informed investigation training. He also regularly delivers training workshops on regulatory processes, workplace investigations and employment law.

Jason has represented clients at all levels of court in Alberta and regularly appears before administrative tribunals, such as the Alberta Labour Relations Board, the Alberta Human Rights Commission and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner.

Earlier in his career, Jason served as a judicial clerk at the Alberta Court of King’s Bench, an experience that strengthened his advocacy skills and courtroom insight.

Jason is also committed to legal education and community service. He teaches human rights law at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law and received the Pringle/Royal Sessional Teaching Excellence Award in 2025. He provides pro bono assistance to Student Legal Services of Edmonton through its Human Rights Project.
