Dan Downe, KC

Dan Downe, KC, is an Alberta insurance litigation lawyer with more than 30 years of experience defending insured businesses and individuals in complex claims. His practice includes motor vehicle and personal injury claims, commercial property damage, premises liability and other insurance disputes.

Dan represents clients before Alberta trial and appellate courts, arbitration panels and administrative tribunals, including in fatality inquiries and coroner proceedings. He also has extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution, including private mediation, judicial dispute resolution and arbitration.

Dan acts for insurers in subrogated claims and insurance coverage disputes. He advises clients on errors and omissions insurance, defends professional liability claims and provides coverage opinions. Dan also represents disability insurers and regularly advises self-insured professional organizations and defends professional negligence claims.

Dan received his Queen’s Counsel designation in 2010 in recognition of his contributions to the legal profession. He is also a regular speaker on insurance and risk management topics at client seminars and legal conferences.
