Charlene Lipchen is a lawyer in Field Law's Calgary office and her experience relating to patent law spans many industries and areas of technology, including computer software, automotive parts and systems, agriculture, oil and gas, sport equipment, consumer products, medical devices and industrial robotic technology.

While Charlene’s focus is primarily on patent law, she has also worked with numerous product manufacturers, importers, and retailers to support them through complex regulatory issues relating to compliance and consumer product safety issues.
Charlene’s practice provides a range of services to clients including:
  • Advising clients on how to protect their intellectual property assets
  • Drafting and filing patent applications
  • Providing clients with practical advice on infringement or freedom to operate matters
  • Advising clients throughout the entire product regulatory process, including fulfilling their regulatory reporting obligations and facilitating product safety investigations or product recalls when necessary

Value to Clients

"Obtaining patent protection for inventions can be a long and complicated process. My role is to help clients seamlessly navigate the patent office by delivering relevant and timely strategies to clients at every stage of the process, with a focus on practical advice that is important to achieving business-oriented solutions. I am committed to showing clients that I care about their dreams and business goals as much as they do by taking the time to learn about their technology and business. If that means putting on my work boots and visiting the client’s site to review the technology in action, that’s exactly what I’ll do."

Outside the Office

Life isn’t just busy for Charlene at work but also at home. A young son in tow, Charlene enjoys hiking, camping and strength training because practicing a healthy lifestyle is important to her. A big part of that is cooking healthy meals and enjoying time around the dinner table with family and friends.
