Prompt Payment Legislation: The Impact on the Alberta Construction Industry
September 27, 2021
While the Alberta Builders’ Lien Act has been in force and essentially unchanged for several decades, it will soon evolve with the enactment of the Prompt Payment and Construction Lien Act. This new legislation will introduce significant changes to the existing lien and construction regime in the province, notably by introducing statutory deadlines on payments in the construction chain, known commonly as “prompt payment”, and by establishing an “adjudication” mechanism to deal with disputes during the life of a project. Some of these amendments appear to have been finalized, while others remain unresolved.
Join Field Law's Ryan Krushelnitzky and Anthony Burden, and Bruce Thompson, Chief Counsel, Investment Services with Wood Group, for a complimentary webinar that will discuss:
- The proposed changes to Alberta’s lien legislation
- What is staying the same
- The concept of “prompt payment”
- The concept of “adjudication”
Who should attend? This session is designed for owners, consultants, general contractors and subcontractors working in the Alberta construction industry.
