History

Field Law has been serving clients and communities since 1915.

On October 1, 1996, after years of organic growth and many name changes, Field & Field Perraton with offices in Edmonton and Calgary, and Atkinson Milvain of Calgary, combined under the name of "Field Atkinson Perraton".  In 2001, the Field Atkinson Perraton firm joined with Williams & Company in Yellowknife. Then, in 2003 we changed our name to "Field LLP" supported by the registered trade name "Field Law". In February 2023, we acquired the Canmore-based firms Hicks Intellectual Property Law and Hicks & Associates Intellectual Property, collectively known as Hicks Intellectual Property.

We present ourselves as one independent, regional law firm with more than 120 lawyers and 160 staff capable of serving client and community needs throughout Alberta and the North connected by a network of like-minded firms that give our clients national and global breadth.

Grounded in the past. Focused on the future.

For the 100th Anniversary of Field Law in 2015, we commissioned a history book and empowered a team of three writers, a supporting editor, an indexer, a designer/printer and a History Book Committee to unearth lost stories and codify our vision, values and roots. We believe that success stems from optimizing the lessons of the past with the optimism for opportunities envisioned for the future.

Stories in the Field

Clients and communities are at the heart of our stories and resultant longevity. Our history book is as much about our client and communities as it is about us. Without them - there would be no us!

We appreciate any stories that you would like to share with us and perhaps they will go into the next version of our history book.
