Legal Assistant, Intellectual Property - Edmonton
Our Edmonton office is looking for an Assistant in our Intellectual Property department. Reporting directly to the Manager, Legal Support Services; this is a role where you will assist patent and trademark agents within our IP practice. The ideal candidate is proactive, self-sufficient, has high attention to detail, and holds top tier organizational skills.

Duties + Responsibilities
- Review incoming correspondence, co-ordinate the flow of information and prepare documents and reporting letters.
- Respond to routine inquiries from clients.
- Review and proofread outgoing documents to ensure they are correct and comply with legal procedures.
- Use word processing, spreadsheet, database, or presentation software to prepare correspondence and legal documents.
- Access and use online patent office websites and databases.
- Preparing engagement letters for new clients and coordinating with Compliance Department with respect to opening and closing of files.
- Assist with Billing and Invoicing.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications + Skills
- 4+ years of experience preferably working in patents and trademarks.
- Experience in patent and trademark prosecution preferred.
- Recognized 2-year Legal Assistant Diploma/Patent Administrator Certificate or equivalent.
- Extremely proficient with technology, database management, software, strong computer skills, and eagerness to learn new technologies.
- Strong analytical and accuracy skills and problem solving with minimal supervision.
Working Conditions
- Hybrid working environment; minimum 3-days working in the Edmonton office.
- Normal weekday office hours (35)
- Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
