Our Edmonton office is looking for a Debt recovery and Foreclosure Paralegal to work with a variety of our firm’s team members. You will be responsible for the debt collection for multiple practices. The ideal candidate is proactive, self-sufficient, and has high attention to detail and organizational skills.

Duties + Responsibilities
- Drafting correspondence including demand letters
- Drafting Civil Claims, Statement of Claims and Originating Applications
- Serving Commencement Documents (via registered mail or arranging process servers)
- Drafting Applications and Orders in foreclosure proceedings
- Draft Caveats for condominium fee collections
- Preparing Default Judgments (including pre-judgment interest calculations)
- Preparing Writs of Enforcement, registering and renewing them
- Performing basic and enforcement searches (bankruptcy, corporate, PPR, Equifax, and internet searches)
- Instructing skip tracers for locates of current residents, employers and bank accounts (when required)
- Working with debtors for repayment arrangement of judgments and overseeing those repayment arrangements and/or repayment of mortgage arrears or condominium fee arrears
- Processing trust monies for clients
- Preparing Bills of Costs (for debt collection and general litigation matters)
- Preparing pre and post interest calculations
- Preparing garnishee summons
- Preparing Notices to Attend Questioning and Notices to Attend Questioning in Aid of Execution, including preparation of conduct money calculations (for debt collection and general litigation matters)
- Drafting Affidavits of Service and supporting Affidavits for various court applications
Qualifications + Skills
- 5+ years of debt collection experience in a paralegal role
- Excellent understanding of the Alberta Rules of Court
- Strong knowledge of the Civil Enforcement Act, Personal Property Securities Act, Law of Property Act and Condominium Property Act
- Recognized 2 year Legal Assistant or Paralegal Diploma
- Eager to grow and learn

- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize and effectively handle deadlines
- Familiar with the Residential Tenancies Act, Mobile Home Sites Tenancies Act, and Enforcement of Homeowners Association fees (HOA) is beneficial
