Newcomers Pathway to Safety and Justice

Thanks to funding received through the Field Law Community Fund Program, we were able to build on the success of last year's Legal Education for Newcomers, Immigrants, and Refugees initiative by launching the Newcomers Pathway to Safety & Justice (NPSJ) program. This initiative further empowers newcomers through legal education, navigation support, and improved access to justice resources.

Our services include:

  • One-on-one legal navigation support
  • Community presentations/workshops
  • Easy-to-understand legal materials

Through group presentations and individualized legal navigation support, clients gained the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to navigate complex legal systems and address legal issues affecting their daily lives.

Project impact:

  • 203 newcomers benefited from the project, representing 56% of our annual target of 360 participants.
  • 127 clients received one-on-one legal navigation support.
  • 76 participants attended legal literacy workshops and presentations.
  • Legal literacy materials were translated into Chinese and Spanish, with additional language translations planned.
Quotes from client feedback:
“Your support during this stressful time has meant more to me and my family than words can fully capture.”
“I understand my rights. I learned where to get legal help in Canada.”
