NWT Indigenous Wellness Programs
As part of our “Fielder’s Choice Award” provided by Field Law’s Community Fund Program, we successfully offered free virtual wellness programming and services for NWT Residents who may be struggling to find the support they need in their communities.
We received $2,000 in funding and the programs we offered were Addictions Aftercare Program, for those who are seeking addictions recovery support for the long-term. The second program, trauma-informed Northern Resilience Program, designed for those seeking safety and stabilization after having experienced challenging life circumstances. This could include, but not limited to, working within a safe space to help process their experience in the wildfire evacuations and other climate-related crises and life events. Climate change has impacted the North heavily over the years, and has been acting as a compounding effect from the ripple effect of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was in this era where mental and physical health became paramount and access to virtual-based services became urgently important.
Addictions Aftercare Program
The Addictions Aftercare Program ran successfully for two runs, of 4-weeks each. Delivered virtually, with a virtual intake process, and pro-bono counselling sessions for participants, Sweetgrass Healing Centre was able to support five people with the Addiction Aftercare Program in 2025.
Northern Resilience Program
The Northern Resilience Program, designed for those seeking safety and stabilization after having experienced challenging life circumstances. In 2025, SHC was able to support a total of four people who were in need of support, while learning about their nervous systems, and emotional regulation. We ran the program for 4-weeks, twice and completed just before Christmas.
What’s Next?
The launch intake for the NWT Wellness Map will be happening in February 2026! Any mental health and wellness service provider will be able to apply to this visual directory for our NWT Residents. To better serve, overcome communication barriers, and to align with their mandates to support our community members. We are also fundraising for the launch and sustainability of the NWT Wellness Programs & Wellness Map, to offer as free programming for our NWT Residents. Stay tuned!
