Blue Devils Athletics: Sport Without Barriers

Athletics creates an incredibly positive culture of pride in our school and greater community at Eastglen. The opportunity for student athletes to participate, volunteer, and spectate all help create a sense of pride, belonging, and joy. This year, the Field Law Community Fund Program, gave us the capacity to reduce barriers to play that our student athletes so often face. Athletes were selected to receive support to pay their fees based on a combination of need and positive contributions to the school community. For every student athlete who received this funding, there were tangible signs of relief- knowing that they could play multiple sports which they would not be able to afford otherwise.

The impact that this has had on allowing student athletes to not feel "othered", to feel at ease knowing they were supported and cared for, and in turn, allowed them to play to their full potential and focus on being students first. For most of our student athletes, club sport is out of the question due to the cost, so school sport is their primary point of access. This funding allowed them to experience high-quality opportunities and feel a real sense of pride in their team and in themselves. We feel immense gratitude to the Field Law Community Fund Program for supporting our program and allowing kids to experience joy, belonging, and just be kids enjoying sports without barriers.
