Supporting Habitat Families with Legal Fees

Northwest Territories
The Idea
Habitat for Humanity Northwest Territories brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. A safe affordable place to call home is the foundation for a better life. It strengthens families, creates opportunities, and fuels strong, thriving communities.
By working alongside families to build, repair, and finance homes; advocating for bold, equitable pathways to homeownership; and pioneering innovative approaches to housing affordability, Habitat for Humanity NWT is bringing homeownership within reach for Northern families.
Every partnership has a ripple effect of positive change, resulting in better health, stronger educational outcomes, and more financial security for generations to come. But there is so much more to do! Canada is in an affordable housing crisis and too many people across the North are experiencing housing insecurity, making it extremely challenging to build a solid foundation to build a better future.
That's why Habitat NWT is committed to scaling up our impact- building more homes, supporting more families, and working with communities to address housing challenges head-on. We need your help to do it!
We are asking for your support to assist our new homeowners in funding their homeownership legal fees. We will have 4 New Habitat Families moving into their Habitat homes this November, and while that is extremely exciting for these families, there are also very real costs to becoming a new homeowner. One of which is the added pressure to save for legals fees for their new home, which can be in excess of two to three thousand dollars each. Providing a hand up to our Northern families to assist with their legal costs would mean a great deal to our families and provide them with peace of mind for their upcoming expenses. It would further enforce their exhaustive efforts in giving back to their community through volunteering and celebrating the togetherness that has afforded them this lifechanging opportunity.
