The Idea

Our initiative hosts free, girls-only (U12–U18) camps once a month, rotating between strategic locations across the city to ensure equitable access for all participants—regardless of neighborhood or transportation options. Each camp provides a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment where girls can learn new skills, build confidence, and connect with peers and mentors.

By moving the camps to different communities, we reduce barriers related to travel and cost while creating localized opportunities for engagement. Each camp features hands-on workshops, creative activities, and skill-building sessions tailored to the interests and developmental needs of girls, with a focus on personal growth, leadership, and community involvement.

To maximize accessibility and participation, formats will vary—from 90-minute sessions to half-day or full-day camps scheduled during weekends, holidays, and school breaks when availability is higher.

The program incorporates three key components:

Technical Development: Participants receive soccer instruction focused on building fundamental and advanced skills, led by highly qualified club coaches.

Physical Wellness: Each session includes structured physical activity that promotes health, fitness, and well-being through sport and movement.

Social and Psychological Empowerment: Camps include dedicated time for mentorship, team-building, and inspiration, supporting emotional wellness and encouraging self-confidence, resilience, and leadership.

This rotating, community-based model promotes consistency, accessibility, and long-term impact—allowing girls from diverse backgrounds to participate regularly without financial burden. It strengthens community ties by meeting young people where they are, both geographically and developmentally.

Free, rotating girls-only camps are designed to inspire, celebrate, and empower girls through soccer, wellness, and mentorship—breaking barriers and building confidence, leadership, and community across the city.

Who Will Benefit?

Through this idea- Calgarian young girls of all different backgrounds that enjoy the sport of soccer will benefit from this idea.

This free, girls-only soccer camp is designed to benefit all girls, regardless of their background, by providing a welcoming, empowering, and inclusive environment to play, learn, and grow through sport.

Participants will include girls from a range of socioeconomic, cultural, and geographic backgrounds- including those who may already be engaged in sports as well as those who have never had the opportunity to participate. All girls will benefit from:

  • Access to a safe, supportive space where they can build confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • High-quality coaching and mentorship, including exposure to strong female role models in sports.
  • Opportunities to make new friends, be physically active, and develop a lifelong love for the game.

At the same time, the camp is intentionally designed to increase accessibility for girls who face barriers to participation, including those from low-income families, underrepresented communities, and areas with limited access to organized sports. By removing cost as a barrier and fostering a culture of inclusion, the camp ensures that every girl has the chance to benefit equally, regardless of her starting point.

Ultimately, this program will inspire a diverse group of girls to see themselves as athletes and leaders, helping to close the gender gap in youth sports participation while nurturing confidence and resilience in every participant.
