Victoria's Quilts Canada - Calgary Branch

The Idea

Established in 1999, Victoria’s Quilts Canada provides handmade quilts to people living with cancer. With over 1,500 volunteers in 25 communities across Canada, more than 110,000 quilts have been delivered to-date.

Since its inception in 2008, Calgary Branch has delivered over 4,100 quilts.  Our delivery area includes Calgary and all communities in Alberta north to Red Deer, and within that area all communities east to the Saskatchewan border and west to the BC border. The number of quilts we make and delivery each year continues to increase. In 2024 we made and delivered 272 quilts, and we estimate that to increase to approximately 300 quilts in 2025.

As a charity, we rely solely on donations and our volunteers to carry out our mission. Quilts are provided at no cost to the requester or recipient.

Monies raised are used to purchase flannel and quilt batting needed to make the quilts (~$45 per quilt). Also to cover the cost of mailing quilts to requesters outside the immediate Calgary area. We also maintain a storage locker to house our fabric and supplies.

Who Will Benefit?

Our handmade quilts offer warmth and comfort to cancer patients and their families. Each quilt is crafted with care and can be taken to treatment sessions or used at home during rest and recovery. Through these quilts, we hope to provide not only physical warmth but also emotional support—reminding recipients that they are not alone in their journey.

Our national website accepts requests for quilts which are directed to our branch based on the recipient’s location.
