PAWS PARTNERS: A Community Volunteer Program

The Idea
PAWS For Life is a grassroots dog rescue based in Edmonton. Volunteers are the backbone of our success. Our greatest challenge to date is developing a solid strong volunteer base. We are opening a new facility in the Blatchford Community that will provide safe, temporary housing for dogs as they transition into foster care or adoption. This PAWS for Life milestone will expand our ability to support not only dogs and puppies in need, but also the families and communities who welcome them.
To celebrate and strengthen this next step, we are launching the PAWS Partners: A Community Volunteer Program. This program will empower people who love animals—but may be unable to own pets due to time, housing, or financial barriers—to actively participate in meaningful animal care. Volunteering with PAWS For Life is deeply rewarding: it offers the chance to make a direct difference in the lives of vulnerable dogs and puppies while also building connection, compassion, and community.
Volunteers will receive training and ongoing support to:
Walk and exercise dogs.
Clean and maintain kennels.
Provide companionship and socialization to reduce stress and improve adoptability.
Assist at community events and adoption days.
Foster dogs in their homes when possible.
With Field Law’s support, we will establish a structured and accessible program that improves animal welfare, enhances volunteer well-being, and strengthens the bond between people and pets in our community.
Who Will Benefit?
Dogs in our care will receive daily exercise, enrichment, and consistent human interaction—helping them become healthier, happier, and more adoptable.
Community members will gain meaningful volunteer opportunities that improve mental health, reduce stress, encourage physical activity, and foster a strong sense of connection and belonging.
The Blatchford community will benefit from a local hub of volunteerism, animal care, and events—bringing neighbours together through shared service and compassion.
Surrounding businesses will benefit from increased foot traffic and visibility, opportunities to collaborate on events, and the goodwill that comes from being connected to a community-driven, animal-welfare initiative.
