The Idea
Operate and expand Fresh Routes’ Mobile Grocery Store program in Calgary and area. We transform buses and trucks into grocery stores on wheels and bring affordable, culturally appropriate fresh food directly to underserved neighborhoods and partner Indigenous communities. Markets run weekly, year-round, and pop-up markets are implemented with schools and community hosts through NSTEP. Funds support wholesale produce, program coordination, transportation, vehicle maintenance, storage, and market operations to keep prices low and access consistent for residents facing financial and geographic barriers.
Who Will Benefit?
low income, and transportation barriers in Calgary and surrounding communities. Primary groups include Indigenous communities (Siksika, Stoney Nakoda, Tsuut’ina, Piikani), newcomers and refugees, racialized communities, seniors, women, people with disabilities, youth, and people who are insecurely housed. Host partners such as schools and community organizations benefit through on-site markets that increase access to fruits and vegetables and reduce isolation.
