The Idea

The need or overview: Our organization, Alberta Diabetes Foundation (ADF), receives numerous calls from individuals seeking guidance on managing diabetes and supporting loved ones with the disease. Many callers, particularly those in rural areas, face significant challenges in accessing qualified healthcare professionals and reliable resources. The “Live Well with Diabetes” series will serve as a vital, low-barrier resource to fill this gap, offering expert-led content in a format that is easy to access.

Program overview: The series will consist of four livestream events in 2026. These live sessions will be interactive, allowing attendees to ask questions directly to experts. Following each event, the recordings will be made available as on-demand webinars on our website. Ensuring the content remains accessible to a wider audience, including those who cannot attend the live sessions.

Expert-Led Content: Each session will be led by a credentialed professional with specialized expertise in the field they are presenting on. For example, a session on nutrition will be led by a certified Dietitian and Diabetes Educator. This ensures that all information provided is accurate, up-to-date, and trustworthy.

The Future: The “Live Well with Diabetes” series is the foundation for a larger resource library. The recorded webinars will be used to develop complementary printed materials, such as guidebooks and resource sheets. This ensures that valuable information can also be distributed to those without computer or internet access, further expanding our reach and impact in Alberta.

This initiative is a direct response to a community-expressed need and represents a significant step in our newfound mission commitment, serving as a conduit for prevention, and accessible care.
