The Idea
Every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and loved — even when their parents are separating or divorcing. Sadly, many families are pulled into long, costly court battles that drag on for years. These disputes drain parents emotionally and financially, but it is the children who carry the heaviest burden, caught in the middle of conflict they did not create.
Kids In Mind is a six-month program, created through the combined efforts of Resolve Legal Group and Resilience at Play Psychology, to offer families a healthier way forward. Instead of fighting in court, parents and children receive support through a process that is more affordable, timely, and always centered on the well-being of children.
Families work with a team of professionals — mediators, psychologists, and neutral lawyers — who guide them through both legal and practical challenges. These may include financial stress, anger, domestic abuse, or immigration concerns. By addressing the full picture of what a family is experiencing, Kids In Mind creates solutions that are realistic, compassionate, and sustainable.
Funding from the Field Law Community Fund Program will go directly toward piloting this project with five families. This not only provides immediate support to children and parents but also generates valuable insight into how the program can expand and succeed in helping more families in the future.
The goal is simple: to resolve conflict in ways that protect children’s mental and physical health while giving parents the tools to co-parent more effectively.
Who Will Benefit?
The children are at the heart of Kids In Mind. Too often, they feel the greatest impact of separation and divorce, even though the conflict is not theirs to carry. This program protects their health, stability, and emotional well-being by keeping them out of the middle. With their needs placed first, children gain the chance to grow up in homes that are calmer, safer, and more supportive. They learn that even when parents separate, love, consistency, and cooperation can remain constant.
Parents also benefit in meaningful ways. Every family has challenges, and every parent has something to work on. Kids In Mind gives them the tools and guidance to do that work — whether it’s improving communication, addressing anger, managing financial stress, or navigating issues of safety and trust. Supported by professionals, parents learn to reduce conflict, focus on their children, and create parenting plans that are practical, compassionate, and sustainable.
By doing this, parents not only strengthen their co-parenting relationship but also model resilience and growth for their children. Kids learn by watching, and when they see parents handling conflict in healthier ways, they carry those lessons into their own futures.
For families as a whole, Kids In Mind replaces tension with clarity, hostility with cooperation, and fear with hope. Families leave with plans tailored to their needs and circumstances, giving them a stronger foundation to move forward together.
