The Idea
The GRADitude Project is so much more than a free grad-wear pop-up, it is a moment of dignity, celebration, and possibility for more than 200 youth who deserve to feel proud of how far they've come. Each year, countless students across Calgary and surrounding communities quietly face financial barriers that make graduation, a milestone meant to honour years of perseverance, feel out of reach. GRADitude changes that story. Trellis Society for Community Impact and Youth Central partner together to create a space where every graduate is welcomed with warmth, encouragement, and genuine care. Students are invited to choose from a beautiful selection of dresses, suits, shoes, and accessories, but what they receive goes far beyond clothing. They step into an environment intentionally designed to lift them up, complete with photo booths, toasts stations, and supportive volunteers who remind them that their achievements matter. GRADitude is hosted over two weekends each year, so we can reach more youth and ensure more students have what they need to feel confident at graduation.
The impact has been unmistakable with 96% of participants saying that the GRADitude Project motivated them to fulfill their requirements for graduation. The experience excites the youth participants for graduation, they say the experience made them feel confident, valued, seen and truly ready to celebrate their milestone. That number isn't just a statistic, it's a reflection of the emotional transformation that happens when a young person is told, "You deserve to be celebrated exactly as you are."
GRADitude is built on the belief that when a young person feels valued, they walk into their future differently, standing taller, believing deeper, and knowing their community is behind them. By supporting this project, you're not just giving a student something to wear, you're giving them a moment they will carry for the rest of their lives.
Who Will Benefit?
The primary beneficiaries of the GRADitude Project are the Grade 12 students in Calgary who encounter financial, social, or personal barriers that may prevent them from fully participating int their graduation celebrations. These students face significant economic constraints that limit access to appropriate attire, tailoring, and personal care items. By providing these resources at no cost, the GRADitude Project ensures that youth from diverse backgrounds, including those experiencing financial hardship, family instability, or identity-related challenges, are able to participate in this milestone with dignity and confidence.
The project also supports students who require an affirming and inclusive environment, such as a gender-diverse youth who may not feel comfortable in traditional retail settings. Through personalized fittings and a respectful, supportive atmosphere, the initiative helps each student select graduation attire that aligns with their identity and comfort.
The secondary beneficiaries include families who benefit from the financial relief and increased pride as their children participate in graduation events that might have otherwise been inaccessible. Other secondary beneficiaries include volunteers, corporate teams, and community partners, who gain meaningful opportunities for engagement, skill-sharing, and community building. Collectively, these groups contribute to and benefit from a more inclusive equitable celebration of youth achievement across Calgary.
