First Steps: FACE Preschool Program
Details
Southern Alberta
The Idea
FACE would like to launch a preschool program as a vital complement to our established supports for neurodiverse children and young adults. This step responds directly to a glaring gap in the Calgary area: very few, if any, programs exist specifically for preschool-aged children with moderate to severe neuromotor conditions—leaving many families without early, developmentally-targeted interventions that can drastically change the trajectory of a child's life.
By introducing Conductive Education at the preschool level, FACE will harness the powerful benefits of early intervention. Research and lived experience show that the earlier children with neuromotor conditions receive specialized, holistic support, the greater their long-term gains in independence, functional skills, and confidence. Conductive Education’s integration of physical rehabilitation with cognitive learning is ideally suited for young children, who learn best through active play, social engagement, and guided movement. For many, these early years are the most critical for developing habits, patterns, and neural pathways that support lifelong growth and adaptation.
Beyond transformational outcomes for participants, the preschool program embodies our commitment to truly lifelong support. Adding this program allows FACE to offer continuous, seamless care throughout a participant’s journey—from their first steps in early childhood through engaged young adulthood.
Additionally, the program recognizes and responds to the needs of caregivers. By offering a safe, inclusive, and engaging setting, parents receive meaningful respite, enabling them to rest, recharge, or focus on other aspects of family life with peace of mind that their child is thriving. Our approach fosters a sense of community—among participants, families, and staff—that reduces isolation and encourages mutual support.
FACE’s tailored, one-on-one attention ensures children’s individualized goals are at the heart of every session, building both everyday life skills and social abilities. Importantly, the expansion reinforces our role as a beacon for accessibility, acceptance, and belonging.
By launching this preschool initiative, FACE continues to fill a crucial community gap, creating the foundation for lifelong progress, inclusion, and well-being for Calgary’s most vulnerable young learners and their families.
Who Will Benefit?
Launching a preschool program at FACE will create widespread benefits, touching not only participating children but also families, professionals, and the larger community.
First and foremost, neurodiverse preschoolers—especially those with moderate to severe neuromotor conditions—will gain access to specialized early intervention rarely available in Calgary. Through Conductive Education, these children develop crucial physical, social, intellectual, and emotional skills during a formative period, laying the foundation for lifelong learning, independence, and confidence. Personalized attention from trained Conductors ensures each child’s needs and abilities are addressed, while fun, inclusive group activities foster social skills and belonging from their earliest years.
Families and caregivers are profoundly impacted as well. With tailored support, caregiver education, and meaningful respite during program hours, parents can recharge and experience reduced stress. FACE empowers families with practical tools, guidance, and a support network to help them navigate the challenges of raising a neurodiverse child. The reassurance of continuous support—from preschool onward—gives families stability and hope, knowing they’re not alone in their journey.
Medical professionals and therapists will benefit from new collaboration opportunities with FACE’s specialized team. By working together on individualized care plans and sharing expertise, they can help improve intervention outcomes and quality of life for young children with complex needs. These partnerships can lead to more holistic, effective approaches, supporting better developmental progress and overall well-being for participants.
The broader community stands to gain as well. An expanded preschool program reinforces values of equity, accessibility, and inclusion across Calgary, demonstrating that every child deserves expert support and acceptance regardless of ability. By fostering integration and celebrating diversity, FACE’s initiative paves the way toward a more welcoming, supportive society for all. Families, educators, professionals, and community members alike develop greater understanding and compassion for neurodiverse children and their families.
In summary, FACE’s preschool launch is an investment in children’s futures, stronger families, more equipped medical partners, and a community that celebrates every member’s potential.
