The Idea
For four decades, Youth Singers of Calgary (YSC) has united young people through the performing arts, nurturing confidence, creativity, and community. Our home, the ATCO Performing Arts Centre (APAC), has become much more than a rehearsal space — it’s a vital arts hub for over a dozen community groups, choirs, dance ensembles, and cultural organizations.
Youth Singers of Calgary (YSC) seeks funding through the Field Law Community Fund to support the Crescendo Capital Campaign, focused on maintaining and enhancing the ATCO Performing Arts Centre (APAC), a vital hub for youth and community arts programming. Our idea is to address urgent building maintenance needs and invest in facility improvements that ensure a safe, accessible, and fully functional space for our performers, anchor tenants, and broader community users.
APAC hosts over 500 YSC participants annually across 15 divisions, as well as additional performing arts tenants and more than a dozen other community organizations, including early childhood music programs, fencing clubs, dance troupes, and recreational choirs. These groups rely on APAC for rehearsal, performance, workshops, and community events. Maintaining the building and equipment directly impacts thousands of youth, volunteers, families, and audience members each year.
Funding will support repairs and upgrades, including re-wiring studios, updating sound and lighting systems, improving rehearsal and performance spaces, and maintaining the overall facility infrastructure. These improvements will enhance operational efficiency, create a safer and more accessible environment, and ensure YSC can continue delivering high-quality, inclusive performing arts programming for youth and the wider community.
This project has a strong “Pay it Forward” effect, benefiting participants, community partners, audiences, and future generations of youth, while strengthening Calgary’s cultural ecosystem.
Who Will Benefit?
The Crescendo Capital Campaign will benefit thousands of youth, artists, and community members in Calgary. Youth Singers of Calgary (YSC) serves over 500 participants annually, ages 3–adult, across 15 divisions, including the STAR program for youth with cognitive delays. Securing the ATCO Performing Arts Centre (APAC) as a permanent, publicly held arts hub ensures accessible, affordable rehearsal and performance space for YSC, four anchor performing arts organizations, and over a dozen community groups that rely on APAC.
Local organizations such as Rhythm of the Rockies, Revv52, Choir Alberta, and Vykrutas Ukrainian Dance benefit from dedicated, professional-grade studios and performance spaces. Other users include Long & McQuade, Adult Recreational Choir Society, Priori Epee Fencing Club, Music Together, and local nonprofits, who access rehearsal rooms, performance equipment, and event spaces to deliver programs, workshops, and community events.
Youth participants gain a safe, inclusive environment to develop confidence, leadership, teamwork, and creative skills, while alumni, volunteers, and instructors have a reliable space to mentor and collaborate. The wider Calgary community benefits through free and low-cost performances, workshops, and cultural events, ensuring APAC remains a vibrant, sustainable hub for creativity, connection, and opportunity for generations to come.
