The Idea

Case Clash is a local and global case competition initiated by Enactus SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) to educate high school students through experiential business learning. Originally developed as a Calgary-based initiative, Case Clash provided students with opportunities to engage in case-based problem-solving and develop transferable business skills. Following its success, the competition is now expanding globally (virtual) to connect high school students from around the world and provide them with access to high-quality, practical business education.

The goal of Case Clash is to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application. Students analyze authentic business cases based on operational challenges faced by local Calgary businesses and present creative, data-driven solutions. This process builds essential skills such as critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and innovation, fundamental to academic and professional success.

The competition consists of two stages. In the First Round of the global competition (Open Submission), student teams submit recorded video presentations of their proposed solutions. Top-performing teams advance to the Final Round, presenting virtually to a panel of judges comprising industry professionals and SAIT faculty. The local competition begins with an in-person workshop, followed by a one-day event.

To recognize outstanding performance, Case Clash, partnering with SAIT’s International Centre, offers conditional scholarship grants: $5,000 per student for first place, $3,000 for second, and $1,000 for third, contingent on future SAIT enrollment. All participants receive a waiver of SAIT’s application fee. Local winners receive a $1,500 cash prize from sponsors.

Partner schools join at no cost, offering students a unique international learning experience. Enactus SAIT manages all logistics, ensuring a seamless process. Case Clash is more than a competition; it’s a growing global education movement that empowers students to think critically, act responsibly, and lead innovatively.

The competition fosters creativity, leadership, and a sense of accomplishment, helping students build transferable skills that support their academic and career journeys.
  • Post-Secondary Students (e.g., Enactus Members):
    • College and university students involved in organizing Case Clash benefit from hands-on experience in project management, stakeholder engagement, and event planning. They also develop mentorship skills by guiding high school participants, strengthening their leadership and communication abilities. This experience enhances their resumes and prepares them for future roles in business, education, or community development.
  • Business Partners and Sponsors:
    • Organizations that contribute case challenges or sponsor the event benefit from fresh insights generated by youth participants. These companies also demonstrate their commitment to community engagement and youth development. By supporting Case Clash, they build brand awareness among future talent and fulfill corporate social responsibility goals in a meaningful way.
  • Educators and Mentors:
    • Teachers and mentors involved in the program gain access to a dynamic learning tool that complements classroom instruction. Case Clash provides a platform for applied learning and encourages student participation in activities that promote innovation and personal growth.
  • The Broader Community:
