FascinAsian Film Festival

The Idea

Following a successful inaugural May 2025 Festival, FascinAsian Edmonton is back in May 2026 and is partnering with ASSIST Community Services Centre to provide free tickets to the Festival for low-income newcomers. Many newcomers face financial and cultural barriers that prevent them from engaging in arts and cultural events. This initiative removes cost as a barrier and creates a welcoming space for newcomers to experience diverse stories, connect with community members, and feel a sense of belonging in Edmonton.

We chose to partner with ASSIST because they are one of Edmonton’s largest service providers for pan-Asian newcomers, serving over 3,000 clients from Asian countries such as China, Vietnam, India, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Korea, and the Philippines. Their deep community trust and cultural expertise ensure that this project reaches those who will benefit most.

This project aligns with FascinAsian’s mission to promote and celebrate Asian perspectives in film and media, foster understanding, and create inclusive programming that inspires and educates audiences.

Who Will Benefit?

This initiative will directly benefit low-income pan-Asian newcomers in Edmonton—individuals and families who face financial, cultural, and social barriers to participating in arts and cultural events. Many are navigating the challenges of settlement, language acquisition, and community integration. By offering free access to the FascinAsian Film Festival, we create an opportunity for these newcomers to see their stories reflected on screen, build social connections, and feel a sense of belonging. Youth, seniors, and families served by ASSIST—particularly those from countries such as China, Vietnam, India, Afghanistan, Syria, and the Philippines—will gain access to a meaningful cultural experience that supports inclusion, representation, and community pride.
