Amplifying Our Community: Creating a reliable stage for student voices and rural community connection.

The Idea
Fulham Community School is a rural, remote school that serves as much more than a place of learning, it is a hub where our community comes together. Throughout the year, our school hosts community-wide events that bring families, students, staff and community members together to celebrate, connect and participate.
We are seeking funding to purchase a new, reliable sound system that will allow us to continue hosting these events safely, effectively and professionally.
Our events provide important opportunities for our students to step forward and use their voices. One of the highlights of our year is our annual spring drama production, where every student has the opportunity to contribute and play a role in the overall production. Students develop confidence, public speaking, teamwork, creativity and leadership while performing for an audience made up of their families and community members. These productions, along with our other school and community events, are well known and well attended.
Unfortunately, our current sound system is aging and frequently falls short during these events. Microphones may not work reliably, sound levels can be difficult to manage, and technical problems can lead to distractions, delays and disruptions. For students who have worked hard to prepare and perform, and for community members who have come together to support them, these technical difficulties can take away from the experience.
A new sound system would provide a dependable, long-term resource for our school and community. It would support student performances, presentations, celebrations, community gatherings and future events, while also giving students opportunities to learn how to operate and manage sound equipment themselves.
For a small rural community, investing in our school means investing in one of the places where our community connects. This project would strengthen the events we already share, give our students a stronger platform for their voices, and create a lasting resource that can be used by our school and community for years to come.
Who Will Benefit?
This project will benefit the students, families and broader community served by Fulham Community School, a small rural school in a remote area of Alberta.
Because of our location, there are limited opportunities for residents to access larger community facilities, arts programming and events without travelling significant distances. Our school therefore serves as an important gathering place and community hub. Throughout the year, we host events that bring students, families and community members together, creating opportunities for connection, celebration and participation close to home.
Our students will be direct beneficiaries. Our annual spring drama production gives every student an opportunity to participate, whether on stage, behind the scenes or as part of the production team. These experiences help students develop confidence, communication, teamwork, creativity and leadership skills. A reliable sound system will ensure that students can be heard clearly and that technical difficulties do not detract from their hard work or their opportunity to perform in front of their families and community.
The broader community will also benefit. Our school hosts several well-attended events throughout the year that bring together multiple generations of our rural community. A dependable sound system will allow these events to run more smoothly and provide a welcoming, accessible experience for families, seniors and community members who come together at the school.
The benefit extends beyond a single event or school year. The sound system will become a long-term resource for Fulham Community School and the surrounding community, supporting future performances, celebrations, presentations, meetings and community gatherings. Students will also have opportunities to learn how to set up and operate the equipment, building practical skills and confidence.
In a remote community, investing in the school is an investment in the community itself. This project will help ensure that distance does not limit our ability to bring people together, celebrate our students and create meaningful shared experiences close to home.
