A Safer Stove for Our Community Hall
We are seeking funding through the 2026 Field Law Community Fund to replace our community hall's 1939 commercial gas stove with a new commercial-grade induction stove.
The existing stove has served our community for more than 85 years but is no longer safe or practical. Its pilot light no longer functions, requiring users to get down to floor level to manually relight it each time the stove is used. The stove also lacks a modern automatic gas safety shutoff. This is a particular concern for our Seniors Club, which has 119 members, many of whom use the hall and kitchen.
Our hall is a well-used community resource. It serves as the town's disaster center and hosts the 4-H Club, Seniors Club, youth group, community fundraisers, the annual community Christmas dinner, and other local gatherings. A safe and dependable commercial stove is therefore an investment that reaches well beyond a single organization.
Replacing the gas stove with commercial induction equipment will eliminate the need to manually light the appliance and provide a safer, more efficient cooking environment. Just as importantly, it will ensure the hall has reliable cooking capacity when serving the community, including during an emergency.
We are requesting $7,000 to purchase and professionally install the new stove. Funding will be used specifically for the equipment, delivery, necessary electrical work, and installation. This is a defined, achievable project that can be completed as soon as funding is secured.
The impact of this investment will extend across generations—from our 4-H and youth participants to our 119 seniors—as well as the volunteers, families, and residents who attend community events and fundraisers. In an emergency, that same equipment will help our disaster center respond to the needs of the wider community.
After more than eight decades of service, replacing our 1939 stove is both a necessary safety improvement and a practical investment in the future of our community hall. One grant will provide a lasting improvement that supports community connection, volunteerism, emergency preparedness, and safe access to our kitchen for years to come.
Our committee and community appreciate the opportunity to request this grant money, and thank you for your time and consideration.
Who Will Benefit?
The replacement of the unsafe stove will benefit all members of our community who use the community hall. The hall serves as a gathering place for community meals, family celebrations, seniors' events, meetings, fundraisers, and other local activities.
A new stove will provide a safe and reliable kitchen for:
- Community volunteers who prepare meals and organize events.
- Seniors attending community dinners and social gatherings.
- Families using the hall for celebrations and special occasions.
- Local groups and organizations that rent or use the facility.
- Residents who participate in community events and fundraising activities.
By improving kitchen safety and functionality, this project will help ensure that the community hall remains a welcoming and accessible space for everyone in our community.
