2026 Backpack Program
Details
Southern Alberta
The Idea
Our Backpack Program aims to distribute 200 fully stocked backpacks, complete with school supplies, snacks, drinks, and hygiene products to families in need within our community.
To extend the impact beyond distribution, we are planning a family-friendly community event that celebrates education, creativity, and connection. Designed to support children and families as they prepare for the new school year, this event will feature a variety of engaging and educational stations such as:
Herb planting demonstrations
Arts and crafts activities
Face painting and a beading station
A bouncy castle for active play
Music, snacks, and surprise activities will create a festive atmosphere for all ages.
In addition to the entertainment and giveaways, the event will serve as a hub for community engagement, featuring booths from local organizations to showcase their missions and connect directly with residents.
Approximately 30-40 youth volunteers, supported by experienced adult mentors, will help organize and run the event, giving them a meaningful opportunity to develop leadership skills and contribute to community service.
With support from 8 to 10 local communities and projected attendance of 300-500 participants, this initiative embodies collaboration and inclusivity. It strengthens community bonds across Calgary while ensuring children start the school year with the tools and confidence they need.
Who Will Benefit?
This initiative will benefit children and families in need by providing essential school supplies and a supportive, engaging event. It will also benefit youth volunteers through leadership opportunities and strengthen connections among local organizations and communities.
