John McGee is an Edmonton-based lawyer working primarily in the fields of commercial real estate, commercial leasing and general corporate law. John’s clients are based throughout Alberta, and cover a range of industry sectors, including not-for-profit institutions, major commercial landowners, manufactured home communities, business entities, and financial service providers.
Drawing from his previous experience as in-house counsel for a large, international real estate management company, John is able to provide his clients with well-rounded advice informed by a clear understanding of the commercial real estate industry. John’s all-encompassing approach to providing legal services sets him apart from his peers in the industry by allowing him to examine issues with the client’s bigger picture in mind – ultimately helping to avoid taking too narrow an approach to solving legal problems. This holistic approach to understanding and tackling client issues also serves to prevent unnecessary litigation costs in the future.
John is able to assist clients with a wide range of legal matters, including:
- All facets of commercial leasing, including the negotiation of retail, industrial and office leases
- Commercial real estate transactions
- Manufactured home site community issues
- Corporate transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions
Value to Clients
“When working with my clients, I always look at the bigger picture and try to understand the factors influencing their situations, whether they are legal or not. From there, I can provide business-minded legal solutions to problems which, at first glance, appeared to be merely litigious in nature.”
Outside of Work
John spends much of his time outside of the office immersed in fatherhood. As a parent to four boys, he’s frequently found at a swim practice or teaching the basics of downhill skiing. When he isn’t managing the day-to-day demands of being a parent, he’s usually out for a run (to and from the office).
