Jim Doyle is a trial and appeals lawyer with many years of experience helping clients with difficult insurance defence and corporate commercial litigation. He has represented clients in the Supreme Court of Canada, Alberta Court of Appeal, Court of Queen's Bench and Provincial Court. In addition, Jim represents clients before numerous tribunals and in all areas of alternative dispute resolution. He is the practice group leader of the firm's Calgary Insurance Group.

Jim's litigation experience covers a wide range of complex and potentially high-exposure claims, including real estate, professional liability, corporate commercial disputes and officer, director and shareholder liability. He also handles issues such as:

  • Employment
  • Fidelity
  • Livery and transportation services
  • Environmental liability
  • Debt recovery
  • Subrogation and
  • Government regulation and administrative law

Regardless of the subject matter, Jim has earned a reputation as a creative, strategic thinker with a persuasive courtroom demeanor and an acute awareness of how to achieve results.

Value to Clients

Jim's years of insurance litigation and courtroom experience are a benefit to clients. "I understand the importance that insurance clients put on closing files quickly and efficiently. I'm not interested in getting rich on one file or on taking unnecessary steps. I evaluate a case, develop a litigation strategy with the client and get it right... the first time."

Outside the Office

Jim is one of several Field Law lawyers who perform together in a rock-and-roll band. "Some of our gigs are paid, some are for charity or firm-related events and they're all fun. We're the best corporate band you've never heard."

"Your presentation was top-notch and the paper will be of much use. A retiring judge said it was one of the best presentations he had heard in his 30+ years as a judge." Honourable Judge, The Provincial Court of Alberta

"I wanted you to know how impressed we were with your efforts and performance in this matter.  This has been a challenging files in many ways. Despite this, your handling of the matter, both in the interlocutory stages and throughout the trial, has been excellent. I wanted to be sure that you were aware of how much we appreciate your efforts and the high level of service you have provided to our company in this matter." Senior Counsel, International Property and Casualty Insurance Company

"I find Jim to be very collaborative in everything he does. He is a person you can count on to get things done." General Manager, Livery Transport Company

For over a decade I have had the privilege of working with Jim on hundreds of pieces of real estate litigation.
