Chris Baker has more than 30 years of experience as a paralegal. She has worked in many areas of law but her current focus is litigation.

Chris specializes in review and summary of documents on insurance, general litigation, and personal injury files. Whether it's a 200 page medical chart or a 200GB electronic construction file, Chris's job is to read it, organize it, and summarize the relevant information in a format that lawyers can use as a basis for a reporting letter to a client, a questioning outline, detailed instructions to an expert, the skeleton of a mediation brief, and often all of those.

She also assists clients with the collection and turnover of records, consults with lawyers and clients on technical matters, and liaises with and prepares materials for witnesses and experts.

Chris has at one time or another worked in many areas of law: she has been a conveyancer, done incorporations and corporate reorganizations, collected debts, drafted wills, prepared estate documentation, made guardianship and trusteeship applications, and has experience in family law.  As such, she is familiar with document types across a wide variety of legal disciplines. Since coming to Field in 1997, her focus has been on litigation support, specifically on electronic document management in medium and large files. She is skilled in the use of eDiscovery tools and processes, and was an enthusiastic early adopter of paperless files within the firm.

Chris has been an integral part of files whose subject is personal injury, insurance claims, construction deficiency and delay, oil and gas, environmental remediation, fires, contract disputes, shareholder issues, information technology, law enforcement and the penal system, fraudulent transactions and is always eager to add to the list.

Value to Clients

Clients appreciate that Chris can undertake a careful, diligent, and detailed review of the documents on a matter at a paralegal's billing rate; she can spend the time to sift out the salient facts, do factual research, prepare lists of additional records or information to request from clients or opposing counsel, and produce products and analyses that can serve as summaries of a whole matter for counsel and the clients themselves. Once she is associated with a file, she remains a resource throughout its life, available for digestion of new documents, attendance at and summaries of questioning, assistance with drafting of court documents, and generally using her familiarity with the records to assist the legal team.

Outside the Office

Chris is an avid hiker around the river valley trails, and an enthusiastic, though not very systematic, gardener. She reads everything.
