The New Alberta OHS Act: More Roles, More Obligations + Many More Pitfalls
Workshop
May 23, 2018
Join Field Law for a comprehensive half-day workshop that will prepare you for the upcoming changes to the OHS Act.
On June 1, serious changes are coming to Alberta’s occupational health and safety law. Already an onerous regulatory regime, the new Occupational Health and Safety Act not only introduces new categories of affected companies, organizations and individuals, but expands the obligations imposed on employers and other parties at Alberta work sites.
Safety will now include psychological and social well-being. Harassment, which can include bullying, will be considered an OHS incident. Reverse onus obligations will require employers to prove innocence rather than OHS officials or prosecutors proving liability will apply in certain circumstances. Already tasked with being the gatekeepers of safety, employers and others are now called upon to expand their watchfulness, increase their vigilance.
Designed for Safety Managers, Human Resources and Risk Managers, this interactive seminar will feature: speakers with extensive experience in OHS law, real-life case studies, and discussion of the risks and the steps organizations need to consider to protect themselves and fulfill their obligations under the expanded OHS Act.
Topics covered during this comprehensive half-day workshop will include:
- Discussion of key changes and how they impact employers and other work site parties
- Do your policies and procedures measure up? Let’s take a look!
- A real world look at Joint Work Site Health and Safety Committees / Health and Safety Representatives
- OHS workplace investigations: What and how to do them, what to avoid
