Expanding the Field

We are very pleased to announce the newest additions to our Intellectual Property and Technology Group. Neil Kathol, Richard Stobbe and Tom Malyszko will be joining Peter Collins, Tom O’Reilly, Wayne Logan and Lisa Statt Foy. The expanded group will continue to provide practical guidance to our clients in the management of their intellectual property
assets. Neil will lead our newly expanded team. Both Neil and Richard are Registered Trade-Mark Agents (including in Neil’s case, for United States registrations) and Tom is a Registered Trade-Mark and Patent Agent in both Canada and the United States....

Field Law has represented its land developer clients throughout the development process from initial acquisition of land, through the planning and approvals stages, project financing, site and off-site servicing, construction of on-site improvements and finally sale or lease to end-users. Our clients benefit from our representation involving some of the most innovative and sophisticated land development projects in Alberta. We have been involved in a broad spectrum of innovative projects including zero lot line developments, private ownership of roads and amenities utilizing resident associations and master-planned communities bringing character and value to thousands of home buyers in Alberta. We have also acted for the owners of shopping centres and office buildings as well as integrated multi-use downtown projects. In all matters, we are committed to delivering the highest level of expertise, combined with the service and responsiveness to meet and exceed our clients' expectations.

We provide legal services in all aspects of land development law including:

  • Purchase and sale of all varieties of land from suburban and farm land to downtown land assemblies;
  • Negotiation and finalization of subdivision, development and other agreements with municipal authorities;
  • Representation before subdivision and development appeal boards and other planning boards and tribunals;
  • Preparing all manner of easements, rights of way, restrictive covenants, building schemes and joint use agreements;
  • Negotiation of construction agreements for servicing, buildings and other improvements;
  • Structuring and negotiation of joint venture agreements and real estate syndications;
  • Negotiation and completion of interim and long-term project financing documentation;
  • Negotiation and finalization of ground leases and tenancy agreements; and
