Katrina’s primary area of practice is administrative law, with an emphasis on professional regulation, policing, privacy and labour.

Katrina routinely provides advice to professional regulatory organizations on issues such as registration, continuing competence, unauthorized practice, privacy and discipline. She appears regularly before numerous tribunals to present cases concerning allegations of unprofessional conduct, and also acts as independent counsel to several tribunals. She has represented clients in proceedings in the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench and the Alberta Court of Appeal on numerous occasions. She also acts as counsel in various police related matters, including third party records applications, and police disciplinary matters.

Katrina has developed an avid interest in working with clients to ensure that they understand and can apply relevant legal principles when carrying out their statutory duties. Katrina has designed and presented at numerous seminars and workshops for professional regulatory organizations on topics such as the discipline process, issues relating to registration, and privacy issues. She has collaborated with the Alberta Federation of Regulated Health Professions (AFRHP) to create several resources for the AFRHP’s members, including a training DVD for Hearing Tribunal members, and several resources manuals for staff involved in the discipline process.

In addition, Katrina is a member of the firm’s labour and employment group. She has appeared on behalf of clients in labour arbitration hearings and other administrative law hearings regarding various employment issues arising in the unionized setting.

Katrina served as the leader of Field Law’s Professional Regulatory Group from 2008-2014. In 2014, Katrina assumed a broader leadership role within the firm, and currently serves as a member of Field Law’s Executive Committee.
