How
We Select Our Students
Articling Students
For the
2009-2010 articling year, we currently expect that
we will hire two students for our Calgary office,
two to three for our Edmonton office, and one for
our Yellowknife office. The following general timelines
are applicable:
- Resumes:
Should be submitted by May 18, 2008 to the Student
Committee. The covering letter should indicate whether
the application is for Calgary, Edmonton or Yellowknife.
- First
Interviews: Candidates for first interviews are
selected primarily on a review of resumes and transcripts.
These interviews will occur in June in accordance
with the Law Societys protocol. The interviews
will be conducted by one or two lawyers in Edmonton
and Calgary.
- Second
Interviews: On the strength of the first interviews,
certain candidates may be invited for a second interview,
again conducted by one or two lawyers.
- Offers:
Will be made at the end of the interview process
in accordance with the timeline stipulated by the
Law Societys protocol.
There
are several qualifications that the Students Committee
considers in deciding which applicants to interview
and hire. Academic record, interpersonal skills, extra-curricular
activities, previous work experience, general background
and interests are all important factors. Ultimately,
the interview remains the single most important element
of the selection process. Our firm looks for talented
and interesting individuals who will be good lawyers
and who are intelligent, well-rounded people. We hire
strictly on merit.
Summer
Students
We have
completed our hiring for the Summer of 2008. Historically
we hire one student for our Calgary Office and two
students for the Edmonton Office. For 2009, resumes
should be submitted by January 14, 2009 to the Student
Committee. Covering letters should indicate which
office the application is for.
