"Prior to starting my articles with Field, I worked in 2006 and 2007 as a summer student at the firm. I enjoyed my student experience at Field for many reasons. The lawyers at the firm are good about getting you involved in files, and students at Field are exposed to many different areas of law. There are many opportunities to learn from observing, and there are also lots of chances to get hands-on experience. I feel lucky to have been able to summer and article at Field."
Field Law welcomes applications for our 2012 summer student positions. In Edmonton, we focus our hiring on students who are in their first year of law school, while in Calgary we consider applicants in both first and second year.
During a summer with our firm, students can expect to work within a number of practice areas and to receive assignments that are varied and interesting. Students are also given the opportunity to attend training sessions, seminars and practice group meetings, as we value and support ongoing legal education and professional development.
We view summer students as an integral part of our firm. As such, summer students are invited to attend all of Field Law’s social activities, ranging from informal lunches to organized firm social events including client functions.
Our application deadline is October 5, 2011. Applicants should keep in mind that all summer student recruiting activities in Edmonton and Calgary are subject to rules that are set each year by the Law Society of Alberta. In addition, there is a protocol in place between the major Calgary firms with respect to the hiring of second year students, which has been adopted by our firm. For more information on this year’s rules, please visit: http://www.lawsociety.ab.ca/files/regulations/Rules.pdf
Applications should include:
Interviews for the Edmonton positions will be held at the University of Alberta on October 20 & 21, 2011 during the Faculty of Law’s on-campus interview period. Interviews for the Calgary positions will be held on October 24 & 25, 2011 at our Calgary office. Any offers extended will be in compliance with the deadlines established either by the Law Society of Alberta or, in the case of second year students in Calgary, the protocol.
