Make Your Voice Heard: Field Law Community Fund Program Now Open for Voting

Members of the public can vote for funding for their favourite local community projects by visiting fieldlawcommunityfund.com.

Starting today, voting is open for residents of Alberta and the Northwest Territories (NWT) to support their favourite community-minded projects. A total of $75,000 in funding from the Field Law Community Fund Program is available to go towards projects, and the public’s voice will help determine where funds will go. This year, 151 applications were received, the most ever in the history of the Community Fund Program, from organizations and individuals with some incredible ideas to build and better their communities.

Voting is open at fieldlawcommunityfund.com as of today. Voting runs through to November 10, 2023. $30,000 is available in each of the northern and southern Alberta community markets, with another $15,000 available in the NWT community market. A local judging panel from each community market  will closely review applications and public votes and award funding.

“Each year there are great applicants for the Field Law Community Fund Program, and this year is no exception,” says Field Law Managing Partner, Jeremiah Kowalchuk. “Hearing from the public is an important part of the process for us. We want to hear from people in the community about where support and funding is most needed. It ensures that we can do our part to help our communities thrive.”

A core value of Field Law is giving back to the communities where the firm operates. With offices in Calgary, Edmonton, Yellowknife, and, most recently, Canmore, Field Law has awarded $760,000 to nearly 130 causes over the last decade through the Community Fund Program.

After the close of voting, the judging panels will convene and closely review local applications. Criteria used to assess applications include:

  • Community effect
  • Clarity of the idea
  • Direct community impact
  • Originality
  • Online votes received
